Ever had the desire to lose weight?
I’ve seen many friends skip meals, ONLY eat 2 slices of bread a day, etc, but in the end, after a temporary loss of weight.. everything comes to a halt.
In fact, by doing this, you practically screw up your metabolism rate so bad that once youre off your so called ‘diet’, you will realise that youstart gaining back the weight at a much faster rate then before!
Why? Here’s a simple explanation I got off my weekly Fitness Tips mailer:
=============================
It is very important to feed your body. If you body does not get an adequate supply of calories or the correct balance of foods it will enter the dreaded self-preservation stage. When the body goes into this panicked state it defends against starvation by storing food for later use and slowing its metabolism. (Metabolism is the rate at which the body uses energy.) The only way the body can store food is to convert it into body fat. However, if you are taking n the correct amount of calories and the correct food balance - your body never feels threatened, so it relaxes. When the body is in this relaxed state -it can utilize stored body fat for energy and the body releases weight.
=============================
What does this mean to you?
It simply means NEVER starve yourself silly but eat sensibly and fit in an exercise plan to your daily schedule. Its the ONLY WAY to lose weight and keep it off! (Besides liposuction I guess?)
It also means that all those VLCD (Very Low Calorie Diets) that you see like the Cambridge Weight Loss thingy, etc would also practically screw you up.

You are just wrong. I’ve been reducing my carbohydrate intake since the beginning of the year, and i’ve lost 15 kg. from 80kg mind you.
The fact is calories is bad for you, if you do not utilise it. And dont ask me to exercise, thats my lifestyle choice. i choose to be lazy and ear less, and it works!
just out of curiosity, what diets have you tried so far?
Anonymous,
Decreasing yourr carb intake isnt ’starving yourself’, so you dont fall into this category.
Also, why I say exercise is essential is because if you want to look good, you need to work out WHILE dieting so that your body holds on to whatever muscle mass you have on you right now.
Losing weight isnt everything… for all you know, 10kgs of your total weight lost could be muscle mass? Also, reducing carb intake but still consuming oily foods will still allow you to lose weight as you are still consuming less total calories - but you dont want to consume all that oil.
People who just eat lesser amounts (but basically eat the same things everyday) normally just end up as smaller versions of themselves. (hope this is not you?)
Exercise ensures that you not only shed bodyfat, but possess and maintain an excellent physique, and come out looking much better than before. Thin isnt everything.
Diets I’ve tried? Nothing special. I just basically try to ensure that any meal I eat has a protein/carb/fat ratio of 40/30/30 percent. Plus, I work out.
:)
I’ve posted something similar in my blog as well.
