Weight Loss – What Is The Best Time To Do Cardio?

by Noel Chelliah on Wednesday, Nov 16, 2005

When you do cardio training first, you deplete most of the glycogen & glucose stores prematurely. Your body turns to it’s backup energy source – fat stores only after it depletes it’s glycogen and glucose. If you did your 30-minute cardio session before working out, you would lose that window of time to really target fat burning.

Burn fat, not muscle tissue
The key to targeting your fat stores rather than muscle tissue is to make sure you’re giving your body the nutrition (food) it requires throughout the day. You would also wanna avoid MARATHON cardio sessions to compensate for a bad meal the night before (like so many people seem to do).

Cardio after?
An intense workout (weight training) will consume most of your glycogen stores within an hour, so when you hit cardio AFTER your workout, your body will begin to draw from it’s backup energy source…fat stores!

Now you’re getting exactly what you want — a solid muscle gaining workout with powerful explosive energy (from your glycogen & glucose stores) then to target fat burning with a cardio session.

The Bottom Line?
Workout first, cardio to finish!

I am about to start using a fitness routine for the first time in my life. I want to do this to loose weight and also to keep fit in the future. I am from India and need help from u to know if my fitness expert is suggesting an appropriate work out routine.

I read from articles in this web site that I need to go for weight training followed by aerobics to force the body to burn actual fat.

Is it possible for you to suggest what are the exercises I need to take up for weight training. Thanks

Always good to read about Weight training, my ex was of olympic standards.. really good!

Can I ask though – how did you get this picked up and into google news?

Very impressive, is it something that is just up to Google or you actively created?

Obviously this is a popular blog with great data so well done on your seo success..

Did you catch the latest game on this?
