GNC Live Well for the Malaysian health enthusiast

by Noel Chelliah on Tuesday, Nov 22, 2005

Edited Feb 2006: Please see my writeup on EGOnutritions.com HERE as they are a MUCH better place to get your supplements from if you live in Malaysia.

GNC StoreIt’s been a breath of fresh air ever since GNC opened their first store here in Malaysia. Ever since then, I’ve always bought my supplements from them.

Before this, you would need to head to either a Nature’s Farm, Weider store, gym equipment store, or purchase via a gym if you needed to get decent bodybuilding supplements (protein, creatine, etc) at crazy prices that the average joe just could not afford, making bodybuilding an expensive sport.

However, with GNC around, there’s now a much healthier competition when it comes to supplement prices. I’m still waiting for the GNCs here to have their Super Tuesday (everything storewide at a huge discount) and their BOGO (Buy-one-get-one) at 50% off though.

Customer Service at GNC? – Excellent! Their staff would go out of the way to help you identify your needs if you dont have a clue on what to buy. As for me, I’ve got them to call up other outlets to check their stocks, reserve order, mail order, etc. I’ve been to quite a number of their outlets and I think the best service comes from their store at Sunway Pyramid.

GNC has everything you can possibly imagine to fulfil your nutritional needs – and at reasonable prices. From Mass Gainers for the hardcore bodybuilder to Orange flavoured chewable vitamins for kids and HGH (Human Growth Hormone) aids for the old folks.

So the next time you pass a GNC store… stop and take a peek inside…. you’ll be surprised.

Ranga – thanks for the tip, but I think EGOnutritions are cheaper when it comes to certain essential products. I’ve also got another source for supplements where I occasionally get my supplies from too, which I’d rather not disclose in public. If you’re interested, please write to me. Thanks.

hafiz: Are you eating enough? There’s no reason for your metabolism to plunge unless you have some metabolic disorder.

I need help. I got no clue what to buy…I have started to exercise (cardio and weightlifting) recently in order to loose 8kg and subsequently to have better muscle builds. With no supplement to burn extra fat and to increase muscle growth, the process is very slow. I need advise what should I take in order to increase the muscle tissue and burn more fat. I am getting confuse in reading all those products available in the market. Hopefully, what I buy will be the best to suit my needs. I am also in medication for hypertension and would like to know whether the product would affect my body system.

Hey Shah, you don’t need to buy anything to lose fat. Just do it naturally. Have 6 smaller meals a day (meals the size of a fist) every 2-3 hours apart. Drink lots of water. Water helps you stay full, though it makes you piss even more (Which is not that of a bad thing). With your hypertension, it’s best to take it easy. Don’t take anything with stimulants ie. caffeine unless you want to enter stage 1,2,3 HBP.

To build muscles, stick with a moderate to high protein diet depending on your body weight and condition. Chicken, Eggs, and Beef works the best. Make 2/3 of your meal consist of protein food. It keeps you satiated longer. Don’t forget to eat lots of veges for easy bowel movement!

Shah: Tim is right – and the last thing you should be taking with your hypertension is a fat loss product, or anything which contains stimulants. Do read the labels of anything you buy at the supplements store.

Dear DM (and everybody else) Do you know if there is anywhere in Bangkok where you can find the same service? There are GNC shops here, but to my experience the staff are shy and poor in English.. :-(

Jacob: I’m not too sure – when I was in Bangkok, I had great trouble conversing with the people there cos most of them don’t really speak much english. Have you tried Bodybuilding.com?

My son aged 32 is having pain in his left arm elbow joint-what do you recommend?

Santhanasamy: Sorry to hear about that – any idea what may have caused it? If the pain persists… I would recommend that you seek the advice of a physician, or even a physiotherapist perhaps. If you are in Kuala Lumpur, or nearby – you can look for Mr Praba, he has a sports physio rehab clinic: more details on his website – http://sportsphysiorehab.com.my/

He is very experienced, and comes with my highest recommendations.
