Low Carb Diet Blues

You’ve been on your low carb diet for weeks now… everything has been going great. You’re dropping pounds of fat and devouring steaks, bacon, pork chops, eggs and all sorts of low carb indulgences. But something is missing… You know what I’m talking about. You are suffering from an irresistible craving for something sweet… something that is loaded with sugar.

Chocolate chip cookies with big chunks of chocolate, or a soft and gooey chocolate cake drowning in a sea of chocolate fudge. How about that piece of cheese cake from Secret Recipe you’ve been eyeing? You know all the meat in the world is not going to satisfy these cravings.

Your body is telling you that it wants SUGAR, so what do you do? Well, up until recently, you’ve either relied on your will power/determination to get you through the miserable cravings, or you probably just gave in into the sugary treats and in the process blew your low carb diet. What has changed?

Well, with the explosion of low carb dieting, big name food companies overseas are realising there is money to be made here and have developed low carb alternatives to popular high carb items. Don’t be surprised to find everything from low carb catsup to low carb beer now available (I’ve seen low-calorie beer in the Philippines), however I must say that you’ll have a tough time finding any of these items here in Malaysia, or perhaps even most of Asia at the moment.

There’s even low carb ice cream!! And as you know, ice cream is a dessert that doesn’t really fit into any diet regimen, whether it is low fat, low sugar, low carb, etc. So, until the day comes for the demand in our countries to be strong enough, I don’t think we’ll be seeing any of these so called ‘luxury’ diet foods anytime soon.
