Protein content of common foods

by Noel Chelliah on Thursday, Dec 8, 2005

Chicken – An average portion of roast chicken breast contains 27g protein
Lean meat – An average portion of pasta bolognese sauce contains 28g protein
Fish - A can of tuna can contain up to 35g protein
Eggs - An average-size chicken’s egg contains about 6g protein (3g from the white, and 3g from the yolk) See my writeup on why Bodybuilders should consider Eggs!
Milk - A 250ml glass of low-fat milk provides about 8 – 10g protein
Tofu - 100g of tofu contains about 23.5g Soy protein
Bread - A slice of wholemeal bread contains about 3g protein

If you’re a bodybuilder, then you would want to get a majority of your protein intake from non-vegetarian sources as they are more easily/readily used by your body for protein synthesis as compared to vegetarian protein. Non-vegetarian protein has always been the ‘preferred’ protein source for bodybuilders.
