What makes a muffin healthy?

muffin noteA colleague was nice enough to give me a muffin she baked this morning, in appreciation for helping her yesterday. And on the muffin was a note:

I made this – healthy orange carrot muffin

Which made me wonder… what makes this muffin healthy?

It was greasy/baked with flour (so mostly simple carbs unlike ingredients like bran, etc) and was just like any other muffin. Perhaps it was because there were shredded bits of carrots in it instead of a chocolate frosting? Many people have the impression that if you chuck in bits of healthy ingredients, the entire food item becomes healthy. The same way people think that just by joining a gym, you’re gonna get fit. There’s more to it.

half-eaten muffinThe muffin did taste really good though, I must say.. and I’m gonna ask her for another!
But would I call it healthy? Nope.
