Things that irritate me at my Gym

We all hate it when something or someone ruins/distracts us during our workouts. Ganee was unfortunate enough to even witness a BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION at his gym while he was working out. Geez.

don't piss me off!Below are some of the things that have been getting on my nerves at the gym over the past few weeks. I think that most of us would have encountered at least some of the nuisances below? You say that it doesn’t seem like a big deal to you? Well, call me petty if you want, but I’m quite easily annoyed when it comes to common courtesy and common sense in the gym.

1. Guys with body odour - it is distracting and makes me lose focus when I’m trying to concentrate on my workout. Go get a deodorant la! Then there are some who have foul-smelling clothing even. Didn’t they get to dry their clothes?

2. Those who queue up and rush into the exercise studio just to ensure that they get the ‘best spot’ or the ‘best RPM bike’ or the nicest looking mat, etc. If you’re gonna be so particular over things that hardly matter and not be considerate to others - chances are you don’t have what it takes and won’t even last 3 months to achieve your fitness goals. So, good luck. Please be a bit more civilised.

3. Those who SPIT PHLEGM into the water fountain. How do you expect us to drink when your phlegm is clearly visible on the fountain? Yuck.

4. Those who use a particular machine for exercises that should be done elsewhere. For example - you sit at the Seated Cable Row machine (for the Back) to perform Leg Raises?

5. And after you’re done using the wrong machine, you forget to wipe your sweat off. Arrgh.

6. The sight of those 2 ladyboys from Fitness First Menara Axis who knowingly hog machines for up to 20 mins each time. One wears glasses, the other is his shorter ladybody sidekick. Both very annoying and inconsiderate.

7. Those who don’t replace their weights/return the weight plates to the rack once they’re done. I notice that the uglier and stronger brutes seem to do this more often. Nobody’s bothered about you, but what if an elderly person wanted to use the machine later? Do you expect him/her to carry those weights back to the rack?

8. The obnoxious men who use the hairdryer to dry hair that grows near the wrong head of their body. Disgusting. Ever heard of a towel?

9. The 2 young punk foreign kids (from Fitness First Menara Manulife Damansara - one of them has an ugly crew-cut) who make way too much noise when they train and yell obscenities. They are VERY, VERY rude. They never replace the weights they use. It’s not cool behaving like total dumb arse kids. Be quiet when you train. You’re not the only two in the gym. Other people want to focus on their workouts.

10. People/Personal Trainers who stare - it’s not polite. If you’ve got a question - just ask. I don’t bite. And it won’t help to smile every now and then.

11. Men who grunt and yell trying to lift puny weights (I dont mind this if you’re lifting freakily heavy weights). You know, they say that the sounds you make at the gym are pretty similar to what you sound like in bed. So spare the rest of us the details please. We don’t wanna know.

12. Those who try to grab my bench/machine while I’m resting between sets. Common logic - if you see someone sweating and trying to catch his breath right next to the machine you’re eyeing, chances are that he’s still using it. Ask - and chances are, most people, like me, would allow you to alternate sets with them. It’s common courtesy.

13. The ladyboy with the “Have you gone South lately?” t-shirt at Fitness First Menara Manulife, Damansara. He’d better stop touching his own butt and prancing around me when I’m handling heavy weights.

Anyone else care to add to the list?

Well, perhaps those big size guys who used to stare at newbies and make us lost concentration and confidence. Happen to me and friends before. (Small Gym)

I had this peculiar experience one morning in the gym. The running and cardio machines are placed facing the suspended Tv’s and one could change the channels while running, especially on those damn threadmills. There was this girl on one of the threadmill and she brought along a mini speaker(not a ear piece but damn speakers) and placed it on the machine and changed the channel to one of those religious channels and bam!! the loud preacher was on air! It was so damn irritating and she was this huge black woman and you don’t wanna mess with her! Shit you dun wanna hear at 7am.

Abit off topic now…

One cool things happen in the gym, I was drinking my shake in the locker room then a guy came up to me, this is how the converstation went

Him: “You buy your shake from GNC?”
Me: Yeah…
Him: “How much did you buy it for?”
Me: I don’t know, maybe 200 plus
Him: I can get it cheaper, about RM 180 bucks
Me: “EGOnutritions.com?”
Him: “Yeah, how did you know?”
Me: I read on a website…
Him: What website?
Me: dailymuscle.com
Him: Oh… you go to dailymuscle.com?
Me: Yeah…
Him:

High five for you man!

Ah.. it’s all about spreading the love! Cheers.
Oh.. and just curious - what was his build like?
Curious to know if any of my readers are in excellent condition/well-built, etc?
Been wondering if I should skew my posts to concentrate on different issues.

Thanks.

I would say he was a medium built, bigger than me :)

Hey, I have seen that TWO FOREIGN PUNKS at FFJH, one of them really have a bad crew-cut, and YEAH — they are RUDE!!!!

We actually work out in the same gym… Isn;t that surprising? I wonder how do you look like now… ha ha hee hee

7 dailymuscle 03.20.06 at 10:08 am

Ganee: Cool.. thanks for the info.

Kitjar: Yeah, there’s no way you can miss those 2 punks. I don’t always go to FF at John Hancock in the evenings.. I sometimes go to FF at Menara Axis and FF at Wisma Consplant. The change of environment sometimes helps me eliminate the boredom of seeing the same faces and same equipment arrangement, etc at the gym everyday.

I am always at Axis. Quite a number of foreigners there, however all of them there are polite and nice. Only the local ones give problem.

Yeah, post a pic of you, so we can spot you the next time.

9 dailymuscle 03.21.06 at 1:18 pm

Ganee: Yes, they always are nice to everyone but these 2 punks are an exception. They should be kicked outta the gym. Oh well.. you cant please everybody.

A pic of me? Don’t think so. You probably spot me all the time without realising it. :P

Yeah, tell me about it. Used to have this kindda character in FF DU. Hated the sight of them.

Probably we had bump into each other without realising it…

BY THE WAY, one of the punk can be very cute na… hee hee

hi all..anyone from CF MV?

13 fairy 09.09.06 at 6:49 pm

I love this topic…I used to workout in FF Axis or FF curve…most of the time I love being in the gym…working out with weights and all. But normally I tried avoiding working out on Sat, Sun or public holiday…WHY???
there is this guy who really irritates me…just by the sight of him. Maybe u guys at FF Curve had come across him…the chinese looking guy, well build…stammering english speaking chinese..with high cut boots….by the name of “S***T”
He will normally load the whole stack of 25kg weights on the press machine..what ever machine…and hardly put it BACK!!!!
Not only that, the sound of him slamming the weights just make me feel like bashing his head. I don’t really care if he is strong or what…but we dont have 2 over react I guess…or shall I say showing up??? Well, the thing is..he load it like there is no tomorrow..but only push it like jerking it a few inches…I bet others can do it full swing.
Then, trying to get others attention by shouting or just trying to get a fight with the fitness instructors there. I use to workout in MV before..and heard that he had been banned from a few other gym because of his act…I can’t wait for FF to do the same thing…
So, as a reminder to all you gym junkies out there…Be MODEST….Be NICE….
-Once you use any weight..put it back…think about people who didn’t have a strength like you who wanted to use the machine after that!!!
-Do behave and show respect to others…we are paying the same fees as you do…you are not even a cent richer than us

fairy: The scenario you described.. is common in every gym, anywhere in the world. There will always be one clown.. or should I say animal.. who will be extremely rude, inconsiderate and just plain annoying. If I were you.. I just wouldnt bother. Chances are, that the steroids he’s been taking have affected his brain that he can’t even behave normally anymore. The best way to ‘get even’ with him.. is to just be the better person here… and leave him alone.

fairy,

he’s probably doing strong range partials or static contraction training. not full range, just lift the weight a few inches. an advanced version is SCT where you just have to lift and hold the weight for 5-10 seconds.

as far as the other shitty things he does, i’ve no comments.
