Miss Fitness Malaysia - When Can We Do Better Than This?

I was surfing around the net earlier today when I came across a site that features our very own Miss Fitness Malaysia! Let me honestly tell you, that I had absolutely no idea that such a title or competition exists in Malaysia.

What was also strange, was that the sites latest update, was Miss Fitness Malaysia 2003. I wonder what happened to 2004, 2005 and 2006? Has the competition been abandoned?

Anyway, looking at pictures of our very own Miss Fitness Malaysia 2003 (I shall not mention her name), it’s not surprising to wonder why this competition never really made it big. One look at the winner, and I’m already starting to wonder.. what makes this event a ‘Fitness Competition’ in the first place? No offence to her or anyone, though she’s not overweight or bad looking, at the same time - I don’t see her to be fit enough to be declared as the winner of a FITNESS competition.

miss fitness malaysia 2003Even with her shoulders fully visible, I don’t see the slightest bit of muscle development.. isnt that the least she could have? From the write up at the website, apparently she was on a strict, no-nonsense 5-day week attendance at the gym, with no less than 1½ hrs per session, with cardiovascular and weight resistance training, and also attended Pilate’s and stunt classes to sharpen her dance routine and strengthen her body for the pageant. From what I read, she also represented Malaysia in an Internation Fitness event. I guess none of us heard or would wanna hear the outcome from that one..

I guess this just goes to prove my belief that the maturity of the fitness industry, Malaysia’s perception towards fitness enthusiasts, prices/affordability of sports nutrition supplements, and the achievements of our people are still at its infancy. Though the past few years has seen tremendous growth, however, we are nowhere close to what we can be.

Now that you’ve seen what Malaysia has to offer, lets examine the competition should she be compared to some world class Fitness Champions… Do you think we have a chance at the International Arena? I’ll let you answer that question.

hehe i think asians has a very different definition of fitness when it relates to the opposite gender than the west. We tend to think of female fitness as slim and slender… when an asian guy sees a girl and remarks that she is fit, it normally means the girl is sexy, slim and slender.

IMO, i’m seriously appalled by those stick like figures that asian women tends to have. They’ve got no curves LOL…..and for some reason they always look and feel very fragile.

There exists such competition and IMHO, it is much cooler and hotter than Miss Malaysia Universe and likely pageants for the girls (I did follow 2004 & 05’s) really do work out, and that Malay girls are allowed to enter unlike the latter mentioned.

My favorite contestant from 2004 did not win and I did not understand why. She (I think it is wise for me not to menton her name too) has represented the country for SEA Games swim team and she did 20 ONE ARM push up for her ‘talent show’ (where girls in Miss Malaysia / Congeniality) would always sing or play batons.

I must work (out) harder to join 2007’s. :)

The Yoga Instructor : We missed you!! (me and Jay) haha. You certainly are more in touch with the local scene probably due to the nature of your job lar. Anyway, if you ask me, i think you deserve the Miss Fitness Malaysia more than the specimen above also. Just my opinion. ;)

Oh .. btw.. Have you got your protein yet? Cakap kosong la you.
