Its about time someone cleared up this common misconception that people have had about food and diets, especially when it comes to fried foods. So, to answer the above question, I must highlight that most fried foods today are fried in vegetable oil. Correct?
In fact, they’re practically soaked in vegetable oil.
Now.. how could getting more vegetables be bad for you?
I rest my case. Anyone has something to add?

What makes you think vegetable oil is healthy? Just because mommy asked you to eat your vegies so you’ll grow strong, doesn’t mean its oil is good for you.
DM: hahahahaha…
ROFL. It thats the case it would be even healthier to eat the compost(baja = manure) cause thats what your vegetable needs to grow.
LOL another dude here is commenting as Jon , i’ll be using the usual Jonz to comment now haha.
Well, it’s good that most of you realised that this post was a joke. Except for Jon. Now for the truth: Vegetable oil or not, oil is something you would definitely want to keep an eye out for when you eat. Especially when you eat outside, and the cook can’t give a damn for your health concerns.
One trick that I see many consumers falling for is the 100% CHOLESTEROL FREE claim on the labels of vegetable oils. Notice how some brands stress so much that they are 100% cholesterol free and therefore, you should choose that brand? Well.. the truth is… cholesterol can only come from an animal source, so only animal based oils (lard, etc) will contain cholesterol. Anything that is derived from vegetables.. SHOULD BE CHOLESTEROL FREE. So, claiming that a particular vegetable oil is 100% cholesterol free is actually stating the obvious.. its just that most people dont know.
DM : I think some folks are confused with how cholestrol and fat works. They’ve probably mind mapped them into the same thing and when some product says its cholestrol free, they think its fat free, which is definitely a no no.
Jonz:n Yeah.. i think so too. I still remember once a friend showed me this bottle of Extra Virgin Olive Oil he bought.. and he told me its FAT FREE! Geez.. took me a long time to explain to him that he got conned.
hmm vege oil has a lot of omega 6 and excess intake of omega 6 can cause increased water retention, raised blood pressure and raised blood clotting. So fried food is never good. To say the least most foods that are to be fried are rich in fat to begin with. The frying medium may some what be healthy but “fry-able” foods are never good; with all the batter, crispy coating and skin.
Nonetheless one good tip is, if u really want to fry food make sure right after you fry it you dab all over it with kitchen roll. The oil actually is sucked in once you take it out because during frying the oxygen bubbles that you see actually prevent the oil from penetrating thru the food. But once the food cools down the oil diffuses in the food. This tip might save you some grams of fat. Oh yeah make sure the oil is hot first too. Dipping it in before it’s hot will seem like a sponge sucking water.
What we need is omega 3 like in salmon, mackerel, olive oil and flaxseed. They offer loads of goodness one of which is increase your metabolism. 3g a day can boost your metabolism by 400kcal. Thats enough to lose nearly one pound a week.
Hehe im a fitness freak myself.
I know I’m a little bit late in posting here but well, here goes.
Although vegetable fats are cholesterol-free, some type of vegetable oils (e.g. coconut oil, even coconut cream, and others but I can’t remember anymore off-hand), may contain saturated fats and trans-fats which when consumed, our bodies will use these substances to make bad cholesterol-the artery clogging kind! Palm oil is apparently one which is safe and does not contain saturated/trans fats, and some research has proven that palm oil has a certain substance which helps reduce our cholesterol levels. You may remember, about 15-20 yes back, there was a smear campaign by ASA(American Soybean Association) telling people that palm oil is bad - anyway that view has already been discredited.
Anyway, beware of santan sold in cartons bearing the words “Cholesterol-Free”. The statement is not untrue but people may be misled into thinking that consuming these brands of santan is safe. Well, it is not - for the reason I have stated in the earlier paragraph. A good alternative is to santan is low-fat yoghurt/low fat milk/skimmed milk. My wife cooks for me curries and nasi lemak using low fat milk/skimmed milk, and once you get used to the taste, you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. Not for me at least, :-)!
In life, nothing’s FREE! He he. Thanks guys.
muazzam: 3grams og OMEGA-3 oils boosts metabolism by 400kcals? That’s alot. For real or what?
amirfuadh: Thats great advice. In fact, my mom has totally replaced santan with low-fat milk too, and I never knew the difference until I caught her red-handed. Even if you use full cream milk, its still way better than santan. Of course, depending on the dish you’re preparing, not everything can be replaced with milk.. right? Thanks for the great advice anyway. I hope people out there start giving it a shot and realise that you cant really tell the difference! Cool!
yea thats what i read from last month’s mens health mag UK edition.
From my knowledge, vegetable oil are not AS bad as animal based oil.
The problem is, due to the repetitive use and also due to the oil being exposed to high temperature (while frying obviously), this changes the molecular attributes of the oil and thus eliminates the healthy fatty acids in it. Therefore, what u get from the initially healthy vegetable oil is infact a high content of saturated fats
The same thing applies to margarine as well. It is primarily derived from vegetable fats, as opposed to butter which is from animal fat. But due to the amount of processing and chemicals/preservatives which are mixed in margarine, we do not end up getting the healthy essential fatty acids.
hope that was written out clearly. probably i could have explained better through words :))
hi all, below is something i got in my mailbox. Interesting!
DO YOU KNOW…the difference between MARGARINE and BUTTER?
Read on to the end…gets very interesting!
Both have the same amount of calories. Butter is slightly higher in
saturated fats at 8 grams compared to 5 grams. Eating margarine can
increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of
butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical Study. Eating butter
increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods.
Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few only because
they are added! Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance
the flavors of other foods. Butter has been around for centuries where
margarine has been around for less than 100 years.
And now, for Margarine..
Very high in trans fatty acids… Triple risk of coronary heart disease.
Increases total cholesterol and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol) Lowers
HDL cholesterol, (the good cholesterol)…
Increases the risk of cancers by up to five fold…
Lowers quality of breast milk…
Decreases immune response…
Decreases insulin response.
HERE IS THE PART THAT IS VERY INTERESTING! (here are the most disturbing
facts….)
Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC……. And margarine
is initially BLACK, but it is DYED YELLOW to look like butter.
These facts alone were enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and
anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing
the molecular structure of the substance)..
You can try this yourself: purchase a tub of margarine and leave it in your
garage or shaded area. Within a couple of days you will note a couple of
things: no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that
should tell you something) .. it does not rot or smell differently because
it has no nutritional value, nothing will grow on it…even those teeny
weeny microo! rganisms will not find a home to grow.
Why? Because it is nearly plastic. Would you melt your Tupperware and
spread that on your toast?
Share This With Your Friends…..(Butter them up!)
muazzam: Thanks man.
Devan: Thats clear enough. Thanks.
Muscle Jedi: I always take forwarded emails with a pinch of salt. I’m not saying the mail isnt true, but its probably just an exaggeration of a tiny fact. In this case.. make that pinch a huge Tablespoon.
