Realising Our Dream and Destiny – What on Earth Am I Here For?

by Noel Chelliah on Thursday, Apr 12, 2007

A Purpose Driven LifeAlmost everyone has great dreams and ambitions. But how many of us are willing to choose
the long and windy and sometimes tiring path that would lead us there?

I believe in a greater purpose in life, that what we see and do today are all part of a bigger picture. We were not put here on this earth to party 24/7 and derive self satisfaction out of our selfishness, but each of us have a role and purpose to play in this world – a role already authored according to the Creator’s master plan.

Here’s a story that I’ve only shared with a handful of people who are close to me. A little less than a year ago, during a prayer meeting at my Church, the Pastor (who I had only just got to know for a few weeks) laid his hands on me and whispered into my ears – saying that he sees people from all walks of life coming to me for help and advice, and that they will look at me as some sort of big brother. Of course, he had no idea of my online persona.

That day confirmed alot of things for me and the awareness of a gift.

Little did I realise that the scarrings of my life (being bullied/made fun of, when I was young), and the hurt I’ve been through was actually a gift in the making. My individual experience, everything that makes me the unique person I am today – MY hurt, MY journey, has now become the catalyst for someone else’s strength.

However, a gift is only a gift… if you give it away.

I find myself often approached and surrounded by people seeking help and advise. Until today, I am amazed at how I constantly draw people to me.., wherever I may be. How often does a chicken rice seller put his cleaver down, pull up a chair next to you, and ask you how he could get rid of his belly fat and get in shape? And that is only the tip of the iceberg.. I get numerous emails constantly from people all over the world – some from doctors, other professionals, teenagers, women, and once – even a young girl contemplating suicide because she was depressed with the way she looked.

It is with this realisation which confirms and keeps me constantly motivated to sink my fingers deeper into what I’m achieving with dailymuscle.com. I NEVER have problems coming up with content and writeups – in fact, I get so many inspirations a day that I think it’s about time I carried a notebook and pencil with me to jot down the many thoughts that strike me.

Sometime early January this year, I was feeling really down, and was away from work and the gym for sometime – demotivated, lacking a sense of direction and enthusiasm. Then one sunny afternoon, I dragged myself to my gym at Fitness First, Menara Manulife… and I very clearly remember sitting down on the shoulder-press machine, leaning my head back, observing the looks and the people as they were working out, those on the treadmill, and my mind was flooded once again with familiar thoughts, ideas, inspiration.. and desire. Strangely enough, I was at peace, and I knew that this is where I belong, and that there is a greater purpose for me doing what I do today.

Now.. as super-heroish and far-fethced the story above may sound to you.. it is all true. It is MY experience, and what drives me. I can’t wait for the day perhaps 10 years down the road when I can look back at my first post on dailymuscle.com and smile gratefully for what I started, and the journey I’ve gone through. There have been times I’ve been brought to tears reading through the emails and positive experiences sent by you, my readers.

You see.. life is not an accident, and I am not here by chance. You too, are not here by chance. It is my desire that all of us are able to live life to our full potential. If you are in bad physical shape, and you know that it is self inflicted… or your doctor has advised you to watch what you eat but you’ve chosen to simply ignore it. somehow, I don’t think that you’re living to your full potential.

It is also incredible how I too often tend to deviate from what I originally intend to write on. I feel silly now, cos today’s writeup was supposed to be about Ninie Ahmad – someone who I have seen turn her personal passion, dreams and real life experience into a reality and a blessing to others… which I guess was what inspired me to deviate and share my journey.

Now for those of you who don’t know, Ninie Ahmad, who has been contributing to dailymuscle.com from way back in January 2006 as TheYogaInstructor is one of the 4 finalists for NESCAFÉ® KICK-START™, with 1 of them walking away with the RM150,000 grand prize to realise his/her dream job. More on Ninie, in my next writeup.

Dear DM, I do not think we need a “greater purpose” in order to live a meaningful and fulfilling life. There is no need to think that we have a unique or special role in life. I think it is enough if each of us strives to be kind to our fellow human beings in words, thoughts and deeds, to be compassionate, to judge less, to forgive more, to laugh more (not at someone or at the world but more at ourself and at our foibles), to take ourself less seriously, to pause often to smell the rose, to cry if need be, to be moved by beauty around us as well as the pain and suffering of others. The list goes on and on and it will take countless lifetimes to do such ordinary but necessay acts consistently and persistently. They are purpose and meaning unto themselves and I do not need more.

Kudos to what you have being doing. I love reading your thoughtful and articulate articles. Please keep up the good work and all my best wishes.
