To everyone looking for down-to-earth, and real reviews for the more popular fitness centres here in Malaysia, the best place to get that info would be the Gym Category at Mun’s Fitness Blog.

As Mun, the author himself puts it;

It is about a layman’s experience in the world of working out, but again, not hardcore bodybuilding. Stories are based on what I have gone through. Some are based on what I saw. Some are written based on what I found from research.

Mun’s Fitness Blog is about health. It is about fitness. It is about weight loss and more. Anything under the roof of the gym, in the name of fitness, I will share with you.

Yes, our blogs do share some similarities, we’re both Malaysian, and we both do have a passion for fitness, though I’d like to think I’m a bit more obsessed about fitness than Mun, and I’m a bit more on the bodybuilding side. Plus, Mun doesn’t really indulge in this little ‘cloak and dagger-anonymous persona’ I’ve got going on here. I think if you make your way to True Fitness at Sri Hartamas.. you’d probably bump into him there.

So if it’s detailed reviews on local gyms you’re looking for - the best deals, free trials, parking problems, safety tips, sales gimmicks, Mun’s blog is the best place to head to. He’s covered California Fitness (Mid Valley, Sunway, Menara Standard Chartered), Celebrity Fitness (1 Utama, Subang Parade), Clark Hatch (Subang Sheraton), True Fitness (USJ/Taipan, Sri Hartamas, Jaya 33 - Section 14 PJ), his experiences with Fitness First, and 101 other gym-related issues.

To Mun - Malaysia’s Gym Detective… You’ve done an excellent job.

Wow..
Kudos to Mun for very detailed info on each gym!

Maybe I should switch from the sports complex or pay per entree cheap gym to one of these commercial ones..

Hi! I’m new in this website. Found it through surfing. And I think I need some advise regarding Personal Training. I’m not sure whether this is the place for me to write my concern…but since I saw the ’submit comment’, I might as well try!

I’ve joined a local gym few months back, and am now in PT session. My session is soon to expired. Now I’m in dilemma - my PT session is 1 month (total of 12 sessions) and the cost is about RM1200, which is very expensive for me. I dunno why the hell I joined in the first hand. Maybe because it’s been my dream to get 6 pack abs (or at least flat abs) since I was 17 years old. (I’m now 26) However, I’m amazed with the results coz I have flatter stomach right now, which I’m very proud of! :) Second is, I like the motivation which the PT gives me. He really motivates me to go to the gym and I don’t want to spoil the ‘momentum’ of going to the gym 3 times a week. I’m not sure whether I will go to the gym 3 times a week after my PT session expired. Then I’ll go back flabby again. After 1 month hard work-out, everything will be back in the drain again.

But, to renew my session means to pay another RM1200! Do you think it’s worth it? Do you think I should continue?

eksk: I don’t mean to be biased or anything.. but I don’t know of any other sites other than the ones you mentioned. There’s not much ‘local’ content when it comes to fitness blogs… don’t you agree?

mary jane: I’ve answered you in my latest writeup - Personal Training Sessions - Is It Worth My Money?. Thanks for writing in.

Hi guys, which ever gym you want to join, make sure you ask questions about the contract and read carefully the contract. Lots of issues faced by members concerning their membership statues and cancellation. Friends face lot of shitty problem when they want to cancel their membership with Fitness First because of the membership contract, lots of unwritten contract is practiced by Fitness First. The irony is, if you are ‘white’ you’ll get away with the issues, but if you are ‘local’ you’ll be hagged !
