Everyday Weight Loss Tip #3 - Do Not Always Believe What People Tell You

Sometimes, family members or friends can hold back your weightloss progress in many ways. Perhaps one of them have tried to in the past, only to have failed miserably, and unconsciously do not want you to succeed in an area they have already failed.

When I was overweight many years back, I always used to have people saying to me “You look fine”, “You’ve lost enough of weight”, “You look good the way you are”.. but surprisingly when I DID ACTUALLY LOSE more of that bodyfat… these same people praised the way I look. You see, I believe that sometimes.. people say nice things to you for the fear of hurting your feelings… yes of course, you should be tactful with your words when you speak to an obese person and not call him/her fat, etc, but if you think about it.. it can actually do more damage if all it does is to deceive you that you’re FINE.. when you’re actually NOT.

Then there are times when someone pokes fun of the unsightly bulges on our body.. the love handles, the oddly shaped butt, etc. How would you react to such a situation? Get upset and indulge in some emotional eating? Get upset and give up? Or get upset, and tell yourself that there’s more work to be done… and get back on your feet harder and stronger and with a new desire to achieve your fitness goals? You decide.

I’m sure when people say things to us.. though it may sound mean.. and I’m sure that they dont have bad intentions.. but ultimately, you should be the person who is in charge of your journey - assessing your OWN goals and results, as only YOU can walk this journey you’ve committed to.. no one else can do it for you. Don’t give in to what people say.

Don’t let what people say discourage you. Instead, use it for your own benefit to push you further.

Weight loss tip #4:

CARDIO is the key…
Try calculating your optimal heart rate to be in the fat burn zone using this Karvonen formula in order to get a better idea of how long to run and how intensely:

For males: [(220 - Age - Resting Heart Rate) x 65%] + RHR

For females: [(226 - Age- RHR) x 65%] + RHR

*RHR = Resting heart rate (Usually obtainable from a digital blood pressure monitor or you can calculate it by yourself, preferably just when you wake up in the morning. Calculate your pulse in 15 seconds interval and times 4 by placing your index and third finger on your left wrist. DO NOT USE THE THUMB AS IT HAS A PULSE OF ITS OWN!)

After calculating, use the result as a heart rate guide when you are on a bike, threadmill, cross-trainer or whatever cardio machine and maintain your heart rate according to the result you obtain for at least 20 minutes!

>> IMPORTANT: Repeat this calculation every month as your resting heart rate will change, usually getting lower as your overall fitness improves!

Hahaha…how true! I am always so happy when people tell me… “hey, you look great, you lost weight”. Since I was told I lost weight, I can afford eating a bit more. So i always end up gaining those pounds that I lost.
