Dear DM,
I am a newbie to all supplements(I’ve been weight training without any supplements for a year and now starting to) and desperately need your expertise. I am currently supplementing my diet with Creatine Monohydrate by Prolab, and Optimum Nutrition’s Whey Protein. Do I have to take other supplements to boost my muscularity? For example, N.O. (Nitric Oxide) supplements like NO XPLODE?

Dear newbie73,
You must understand this one important fact - we DO NOT need nutritional supplements to build muscle. You’re probably hoping that the supplements will be the answer to meeting your goals of packing on some muscle mass, but please realise that supplements will not get you there, but it will HELP you get there a little faster. I would say that’s the only significant benefit.
The word supplement in itself… means “something you add as a supplement to what seems insufficient”. So - understand that your body is ALREADY fully capable of growing fit and packing on muscle mass as long as your nutritional needs are met (especially when it comes to protein). It is only when you can’t meet these needs do you need to supplement your diet with supplements. So, if you understand how supplements like BSN’s NO XPLODE and other Nitric Oxide supplements work, and the impact it has on your body, and whether you really need them at this stage, and if you have all the spare cash to splurge on what I’d call ‘luxury’ supplements.. then by all means, do give them a shot. They do help.
Many of us think that supplements are ESSENTIAL in this world of bodybuilding, health, and fitness - which I’d like to almost entirely blame it on the flood of advertisements for bodybuilding supplements you can find in every bodybuilding magazine. Anyone out there who has read a bodybuilding magazine would definitely know what I’m talking about.
So, do we need to take other supplements to boost our gains?
No, we don’t. Supplements alone won’t get us there - they only HELP with the journey.
Your friend and coach,
DM

Good response DM.
I’ve recently embarked on a new regime where I’ve stopped taking supplements save for protein. Even the protein has been reduced where I only take 40grams after each workout and nothing more.
I’ve been told that it’ll do me some good such as the muscle will be harder and that I’ll be stronger. I must say that my endurance has improved but the strength during workout has diminish particularly since I’ve stopped using NO Xplode.
Let’s see how it goes…..
DM,
I agree with you, I have been working out for 2 yrs, supplements are optional, but they really do help alot, but many mistaken that taking supplements and sleeps whole day will make them muscular.
I am thinking on taking Cell Mass and Hydroxycut Hardcore and Cell Mass, what is you opinion, can both be taken together, since Cell Mass to add mass and Hydrocut is to cut? please advice.
izyz: Interesting. But your body would still need sufficient protein to be able to repair and grow - you’re getting that from your other meals.. right? I agree, its a lousy feeling when you lay off N.O. XPLODE.
Muscle Jedi: I believe that creatine can be used while cutting. It can help you keep your strength levels up when on a calorie or carb restricted diet. I always supplement with creatine when I’m trying to get leaner.
The amount of caffeine in NO Explode is the main substance that get you hooked and make you feel ‘fully charged’. Recently when I was in KL I tried this enegy gel called ‘Power Gel’ sold at GNC and to my suprise it worked really well. I tried the imported one (RM8) with 1X caffeine also there is a local one (RM4) with 2X caffeine. I think it’s actually more affordable than NO Explode.
DM, Does NO explode contains creatine as well? since my creatine monohydrate bottle is almost finished should i get NOexplode?
