Having Jennifer Aniston’s Thin, Toned Arms

Jennifer Aniston - GQ MagazineDear DM,

I’ve been obsessed about having thin, toned arms - exactly like Jennifer Aniston’s for ages now. I first tried weights (in balance with cardio), but gave up after really unsatisfying results. Then I cut out all fat from my diet and subsequently lost a lot of weight. Yet, my arms never changed, and when they are straight by my sides the wobbly underarm squashes out so that my arm looks flabby and big. PLEASE can you advise me on a routine that will eventually give me arms like Jen’s. Whenever I think about my arms it gets me down, and I really can’t afford to lose anymore weight. Thanks.

bARMy

Dear bARMy,

Jennifer Aniston does have really great arms… and the fact that she flaunts it alot kinda tells you that she herself knows they look good. But you know, I’m pretty sure that it came with a price - and for the price she paid… she deserves it. Perseverance, determination, effort, and watching what you eat should all form the foundation of what you do.

Having great looking arms (and this applies to both men and women) is not only about shedding bodyfat, but we also need to have some decent muscle mass on our arms in the first place, and weight training is the only way to achieve this - unfortunately my dear, this is exactly what you have given up on. You need to have some muscle mass on your arms in the first place, and then work on a sensible weightloss plan to get leaner and reveal a more gorgeous you (that’s already there actually - just waiting anxiously to be revealed).

It is not about Jennifer Aniston having some magic routine that gave her those arms. The only ‘advantage’ Jennifer may have had that I can think of, is the fact that money ain’t the issue and she could have hired a personal trainer to motivate, guide, and push her further, and also not forgetting the pressure she has to look good, being a celebrity.

For now, you need to get back into a weight training routine, and this would of course have you performing exercises for your arms already. You’d want to ensure that you pay equal emphasis to both your biceps AND your triceps. At the same time, don’t neglect your other body parts and they all play a role in adding overall muscle mass to your body, and helping you with your weightloss. Then after a couple of months of weight training, you can then bump up your cardio, modify your diet, and start a ‘cutting’ phase, to reveal a leaner body with better looking arms.

The mistake you’ve done now is to rely exclusively on cardio and a restricted calorie diet. Yes, you will see positive results on the weighing scale… but that alone will not be sufficient to give you what you desire.

Remember, you’re transforming your body - NOT creating a smaller version of your existing self. That’s why you need to weight train, and eat right.

Your friend and coach,
DM

DM : agreed totally!

i try to go for bodypump at least once a week and for my cardio workout, i attend bodycombat and sometimes rpm. but i also use other cardio machines, not solely rely on the classes. it’s worked so far, maybe bARMy wanna give it a shot too? :)

Get women pushing those weights! and don’t be afraid of going heavy gradually. Once your body adapts to a particular weight lifted you won’t get any further adaptation so you have to keep pushing yourself over time!!

I know a gal from the gym that complaints that her arms is too muscular. To me, it looks fine. It IS muscular but then again, she looks healthy and have absolutely model-like FLAT abs. I think its in her genetics. She doesn’t do weights at all as she is afraid that it will make her more muscular than she already is. So she just does a lot of cardio like RPM and Steps, plus Yoga to help keep her arms toned.

She often asked people, how to make her arms less muscular? I have absolutely no idea.

try supersets.

1. Dumbbell One Arm Triceps Extension (10, 12, 15 reps), followed by
2. Tricep Dip (assisted/ benched) (12, 15, 18 reps)
rest 30-45 seconds between 1. and 2.

followed by,
3. Kickback (3 sets), and
4. Cable One Arm Pushdown (optional)

works well for me! good luck!

of course, after a couple of weeks.. change e routine.. there r plenty more exercises out there that helps! :D

I agree it’s all about perseverance & determination.

However, bARMy should stay away from the magazines. Photoshop is common. Who says those are Jennifer Aniston’s real arms?

Synergy: Yes, that IS the key.. but in my observation and opinion, most Asian women are afraid of lifting weights… which is also partially why I decided to post this question and my reply on the site.

The Yoga Instructor: Hmm.. haven’t really noticed your arms. Oh wait.. I still have that pic of you perfectly colour-coordinated and with your veins bulging out!

Mehdi: That’s an excellent reference - thanks!

Just Sharlene, I believe i’m in same spot as the gal you mentioned.. I’ve got broad muscular shoulders and I look like ‘The Hulk’ when I wear fitting T-shirts or clothes. I find it really hard to buy tops that fit me. I always thought slim shoulders look feminin and womanly, so I’m seeking ways to make my arms look thinner and less muscular. Although I do a lot of cardio and and seldom lift weights, yet I build muscle easily. Must be genetic~
