Gym goers nab Peeping Tom manager in Petaling Jaya

by Noel Chelliah on Wednesday, Jan 16, 2008

I couldn’t help but IMMEDIATELY read this article in today’s newspaper, The Star. I was shocked
not by the perverted behaviour of an individual, but by the fact that it was the Manager of the health centre. Sigh… read on…

Gym goers nab Peeping Tom manager
A MANAGER was caught for peeping at a woman bathing in the washroom of a health centre in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, reported China Press.

The woman – a lawyer in her 20s – was taking a shower after her gym session at the health centre in a shopping complex around 1pm. Shocked to see someone peeping at her from below the door, she shouted for help.

The others at the centre went to her aid and nabbed the 31-year-old manager. They handed him over to the police.

It’s sometimes quite annoying when newspapers don’t disclose the actual location, but I guess they do it for a reason. It would be a great embarrassment to the fitness centre if the entire nation finds out which one it is. I think that I too am at risk of making an enemy if I do disclose the gym here – but fortunately (or unfortunately), I do not know where this incident took place. But wouldn’t you like to know?

One thing for sure is that it must be in one of the larger health clubs since it is in a shopping complex, and that rules out Fitness First too since the branch at Menara Axis isn’t in a shopping complex (phew!). I could make a guess that it could be the gym in Jaya33 because thats the only shopping complex I can think of in Petaling Jaya with a gym.

You know… it’s hard enough to get someone to adopt a healthy lifestyle and be comfortable in a gym and adhere to their workout routines, therefore I hate it when something like this happens especially when it was DONE BY A STAFF of the health club. It’s just SAD.

Anyway, I’m SURE that someone among all of you gym goers in the Klang Valley out there – one of you (yes, you!) knows where this happened. So, please… do share. Or even if you have had other similar incidents happen to you – I’d like to hear from you. Post your comments via the form below (scroll down).

It’s odd right, cuz how can the manager go into the bathroom so easily, when there are normally lotsa other women? Unless of cuz it’s one of those early morning gym sessions…

just a thought, fitness first in the curve is also a shopping centre. i know the manager in axis and he’s not 31 years old. so thats ruled out.

Dude, possibility of Celebrity Fitness – Subang Parade, and 1 Utama.
Sunway Pyramid?

don’t they have all kinds of managers? Front desk manager, fitness manager etc.

so which is it? and i doubt that it’s FF the curve because otherwise, i would have known about it. ehehhehehehehhe!

Klaw: Yes, exactly. It’s just too risky to walk into the changing room of the opposite sex in the first place..

Andy, Ganee, anomie101: The report says that it’s in PJ. So that rules out quite A LOT of gyms actually. And good point about the many types of managers.

HEY.. you know what? I just re-read the above article again.. and it doesn’t actually indicate whether it’s the CLUB MANAGER or just some other manager who wandered into the shower room. It did say ‘A MANAGER’.. and not ‘The Manager’ or ‘Club Manager’.

Oh oh.. I think I may have made a boo-boo.

DM,

I agree with you this incident will not help the local fitness industry one bit. I can imagine it .. ladies will avoid gyms, especially the big chains because of the fear of peeping toms. Just one more excuse not to go to a gym.. *sigh*..

on the bright side, those gyms who cater exclusively to women will be getting more business i guess…

Eh… Celebrity Fitness 1-Utama is listed under PJ. Better be cautions ladies…

Another point “Shocked to see someone peeping at her from below the door,..”

But Celebrity Fitness uses curtains showers…

Hmmm….

But then again, all this are speculation. Men and ladies, just be extra careful in the showers.

Ganee: Yes, we should always keep a watchful eye. Actually, I wouldn’t mind if a lady peeped under the shower door to check me out. But I think that the odds of a GUY peeping under my door are greater lah. Sigh.

shopping malls that have gyms in PJ are:
1 Utama – Celebrity Fitness
The Curve – Fitness First
Bandar Utama Centerpoint – Fitness Network
Jaya 33 – Celebrity Fitness

It’s pretty dumb for the guy to actually try and peep at someone from under the door, what’s more at 1PM during lunch time when there’s quite a lot of people around. It’s so easy to get caught. Maybe he was doing something else and he was caught in a wierd situation. ala Mr. Bean?

If I was the manager, there would have been so many other ways to peep without having to bend down and peep under the door. Installing hidden cameras would have been so much easier.

Thats why Im glad our gym doesnt have showers. We have bathrooms and very small changing rooms and there is not way for anyone to “peep”!

what about California Fitness in MidValley? isnt that considered in PJ? no?

If the word ‘door’ is mentioned- sounds suspiciously like FF- coz other gyms are using shower curtain, rite? Anyone heard bout the commotion at FF Axis whereby a guy was taking a shower and felt someone extended and rubbed his legs? My friend told me about it- think happened bout 1 or 2 weeks ago.
Btw, must warn u all bout the changing rooms in Midvalley megamall- some ppl said some rooms got hidden camera but not sure which one. My fren’s husband said it was shown in the internet. Hmm… wondered how he found out bout it. Anyway to detect hidden cameras?

Aiya so sorry, I am referring to the changing rooms in the shopping outlets in Midvalley- not the gym there. Just not sure which stores had cameras installed. Cali is ok coz a few of my friends go there- have not heard of any issues.

AHAHAHAHA. Hear hear!

Hidden cameras.. oh crap. After the Chua Soi Lek thing, we know it’s quite possible. But as a prominent blogger pointed out, it would involve the cooperation of the maintenance staff, cleaning staff, electrician and management. (Wonder why no staff at the Johor hotel was arrested. Heck, then again, they get away with losing RM4.6 billion, cracking highways, selling AP’s, stamping down AirAsia while artificially suporting MAS and so many unmentioned cases like the unbuilt naval ships etc etc. Sigh, Bolehland. Vote wise, guys).

pshaw.
ppl always make such a big deal about peeping toms.
i dont say they are right or condone it, but whats the big fuss.

solong as no physical harm, or other invasion such as taking photo…past is past la. and how are you going to prove it? its all the more embarassing to get involved with security, police etc.

eg if he was caught with a digital pictures on phone or cam, then there is higher chance to be prosecuted.

frankly, if you are worth peeping at, thats itself a flattery already.

What i mean is, there is no need to make such a big deal about that, if not harm done.
