The Importance of a Customized Training Program and a Qualified Personal Trainer

by Noel Chelliah on Thursday, Jan 22, 2009

Just a quick note to say Welcome to readers from The Yoga Instructor Diaries! Don’t forget to check out this Special Welcome Message, written JUST FOR YOU before you leave.

Getting a fully qualified trainer makes a huge difference. If you are considering hiring a personal trainer at your health club/gym, it is absolutely important that your Trainer is able to provide you with the standard of care you deserve. For example, an individual suffering from Type 2 Diabetes (non-insulin dependent) would have different exercise guidelines/recommendations from someone suffering from Type 1 Diabetes (insulin dependent).

Also, he/she should be experienced enough to be able to put together a fun and personalized fitness program that you can perform conveniently. No point making you run on the treadmill if you absolutely hate running or if it would only cause injury.

We Personal Trainers are more than someone who just comes out with an exercise program. We are motivators, educators, and as I often like to say – “Life Changers”.

I encourage you to take the time to watch the following 3-minute video which gives an account of John and Judy who are reaping the priceless benefits of exercise after coming to realise that their health has been neglected for too long.

Just yesterday, I was contacted via email by an individual who was concerned about the health of her overweight mother of 55 years old, who unfortunately, is unable to renew her health insurance due to her being 8 kgs overweight and diagnosed with Hypertension (and on medication). Though it is sad that she allowed herself to reach such a stage, I am glad that they have chosen EXERCISE as the solution, and not some Slimming Centre.

I am also glad that the individual took the trouble to look for a Certified Trainer who has the knowledge to handle such a client (Yes, I am blowing my own trumpet here). We start next week, and I am excited to work with her.

It is things like these that confirm and make me glad I made a career switch from the IT Industry to becoming a Full Time Certified Personal Trainer. It is incredibly rewarding as a career, and I have absolutely no regrets.
