Just like how my pet Rottweiler, Troy, simply cannot be separated from his favourite toy…

He goes EVERYWHERE with it – even when I give him his bath or take him out!

So just like Troy, I too, have a few items that I almost cannot do without when I’m at the gym for my workout. Here they are, in no particular order:

Chewing Gum

My Ipod

My Harbinger washable leather workout gloves
And last but not least…

My Watch
Real Personal Trainers wear REAL watches ;), and not just Heart Rate monitors to ‘make up’ for their lack of exercise.
I also carry a bottle of water with me at ALL TIMES (not pictured here).
Don’t get me wrong – it’s not that I wouldn’t be able to carry on with my workout without the above, but I certainly would feel very different and ‘out of place’ if I were to forget any one of them.
Now it’s your turn – what are some of the things YOU just HAVE to bring along with you when you work out? A favourite towel? Your mobile phone? An MP3 player? Do share!
P.S. – And stay tuned for my write-up coming soon – “Things I can’t do without as a Personal Trainer” (would you believe it even includes an eyeliner pencil? Yes you read correctly!) Subscribe to my newsletter to be notified when its up!

My list is pretty similar:
water bottle; iPod; towel; gloves; chewing gum.
I can’t survive without water and my tunes!
Thanks for the great web-site.
i’d normally bring my trusty water bottle, eventhough for the most part, i don’t really use it during the workout. TOWEL is a must!
and of course my mp3 player if i ever decide to hop on the threadmill instead of joining any of the gx classes.
and oddly enough, chewing gum!
oh and an extra tshirt.
Shanz: Hey.. we’re quite alike! :)
As for me, I don’t really carry a towel with me, well I probably should.. but I don’t really sweat much, unless I’m doing my cardio at the treadmill/stepper/rower, etc. And when I do, and when I make a mess – I use the towel and disinfectant provided by the health club EVERYTIME.
anomie101.. long time no see. Doing good?
Mine is similar to yours but without the gum and the ipod. I used to carry my ipod around but somehow I just can’t get in sync with the earphone wires! So now I just go about the gym with my towel, my bottle of water and my workout gloves only.
wah someone reworked the site. is it on blogger or wordpress?
its kinda cute seeing a big pet (your dog) having somewhat of a ‘security blanket’ haha.
ikram : Running on wordpress – But I think I’m having trouble with the sidebars displaying properly on IE. It’s driving me nuts!
Oh yeah.. my dog may seem cute – but he’s not friendly to strangers. Which is a good thing, being a guard dog. :)
i can’t work out without my ipod nano (in my nike armband… used to have nike+ but the battery in the receiver keeps running out really fast)… a towel (i get them from the gym included in my membership), my Sigg waterbottle and my toiletries kit… hehe
as for workout gloves, would they be only for hardcore weight lifters, or should i get a pair since i’m kinda prone to blisters (especially after rowing for 5km)…
haahhaa… if I ever get a dog, it’ll be a dog that DOES IT’s JOB. no point getting like, a chiwawa (no offense to those who have one!)
iPod
towel
gloves
hairclip/ band
focus and discipline
:)
Marcus: Sigg waterbottle and toiletries kit? Nice. I stopped investing in a good water bottle once I realised I have a bad habit of leaving things behind at the gym. FYI, I find my workout gloves to be ESPECIALLY helpful when I’m on the rower – gives good grip, and yes, certainly helps prevent the blisters.
suN: I like how you spelt chiwawa. Haha. I’m guessing all of us iPod junkies are those who don’t ‘socialize’ too much during our workouts – which is good!
haha… i’ve had the sigg waterbottle for a long time now… don’t like using plastic bottles (unless they’re the platypus type that are BPA free! only problem with the platypus – http://www.tinytapir.com/category.php?category_id=52 – is that they don’t sit up properly and flop when less empty… so not good for on-the-run drinking)… i fill my toiletries kit with hotel shampoo, conditioners and soaps that have built up in my house over time! good way to get use and then get rid of them!
i might head out to get a pair of good workout gloves once i head back into the gym… since i started doing the new diet/workout (at home) regime, i haven’t been to the gym…
well it’s a good thing.. not socializing.. i mean, sometimes i just find one too many odd person there.. so i rather tune out (no pun intended) and focus on what i do. moreover, i do go during lunch hrs, which is all e more precious. i ain’t gonna waste precious minutes talking to ya!!
recently this hefty guy came up to me during my no iPod day. i could have sworn i swore. GRRRR… then he yakked n yakked n yakked..
err.. how do u spell chiwawa??? :P my bf calls me that sometimes.. i talk alot!
It’s chihuahua… I have a habit of leaving things behind too haha (usually my sandals and water tumbler). I suppose the #1 thing that you just have to bring along when u workout is probably a bag to carry all those gloves, iPod, towel, chewing gum, chiwawa etc. :D
ahahhaa… yeah it’s chiHUAHUA alright :P i told e bf about my mistake and he laughed his head off.
I have a huge Adidas duffel to throw EVERYTHING in. well, except shoes coz i have a separate shoe bag for that. Have this phobia of contamination.
Oh, i also have to remember to bring along small plastic bags for my soiled clothes too. True Fitness here in SG doesn’t supply a roll of plastic bags in the locker area, so one needs to actually ask for one at the counter upon sign-in.
OK I get it, IPOD, Water, Gloves… but why chewing gum? I’m kinda new in gym thing, so please tell me why the chewing gum thing while we doin’ workout? BTW I like your blog, so info-matic. LOL!
HARRIson: It just keeps my mouth busy. I’m very restless when I workout – I need to pace around, and can’t just sit still. The chewing gum helps. I guess it’s just become habit, thats all. No special health benefit there. :) Thanks for the kind words. Info-matic? :)
