A Revelation from the Biggest Loser

by Noel Chelliah on Wednesday, Mar 11, 2009

I just watched The Biggest Loser on Astro’s Hallmark channel this afternoon – and was brought to tears halfway through the show.

Though this is nothing new to me, but seeing severely obese ORDINARY people (like you and me) experience the joys and the benefits of exercise – is really something else.

People fitting into clothes they never imagined they could.
People pushing themselves to new limits.
Relationships restored!
Medication – no longer necessary!
Asthma gone!
Heartburn gone!
High cholesterol gone!

The human spirit – at its best.

This is the power of lifestyle change – healthy eating and exercise.

No starvation necessary.

No overpriced meal replacement shakes necessary.

Real food.
Real exercise.
Real commitment.
Raw willpower.
Losing weight and regaining health – the right way.

I am convinced once again, and extremely glad I chose this career path – to leave corporate Malaysia to become a freelance Personal Trainer, to be able to play a role in giving people back the lives that they deserve.

This is what I want to do – for the rest of my life.

Im not obese in the past, but am a lil bit skinny with not much body shape. I’m truly glad that one of my university friend asked me to join him to go the gym together. That was the beginning of my transformation and eagerness to the knowledge of fitness and health. Been surfing the net for information on healthy diet and exercise so that I could be healthy, and at the same time, look amazing. Cheers to those that achieved their desired physique and to those that’s starting to join in the fun, do enjoy your stay here since there’s a lot of fitness enthusiast here happy to lend a helping hand, or just to give motivation.

Adeline: go to the beach or to sunway lagoon. Wear as little clothing possible while you’re in there. And remember to give me a head up when you’re going, so i can go and make friends with you. I might need some tan myself ^^

Adeline: I didn’t realise the tan – unfortunately, I don’t provide tanning services as a certified Personal Trainer. Otherwise I could give you a complimentary tanning session.

suN: Thanks babe! :)

viperx: Great story – glad that you realise that exercise is not only about weightloss or weight gain – but also about improving our health. Do let me know when you and Adeline go on your sun-tanning date – I would love to join you guys! haha.

I sure missed out by not taking before and after pics with clients. You hardly need to say a word with pics like these. No better way to get third party validation.

I didn’t know they have it on Hallmark channel..wow I love stories like this..it’s so inspiring. I’m on my own journey now..not that I’m obese but I sure will look and live better if I can lose some weight.

DM, I think the show’s fantastic but it would be even better if the competition doesn’t pick the winner on weight-loss alone. The scales should be smart enough to check the competitors’ body composition as there have been numerous occasions of having no weight-loss at all after grueling exercise and proper diet.

Might be they’ve lost fat but gained muscle mass which did not show on the scales. The contestants seem so distraught they didn’t lose weight, some of them got demotivated.

But that’s just my 2 sen.

Viperx : Totally agreed on the beach as I’m a beach lover. A must visit every year. In fact, I’ll be heading to Phuket this May, so really gonna work out like mad to bring out my muscles. *wink-wink* hehhe. Just went to tan at sunway lagoon last sunday. The sun was superb. Tanned a bit oni lah. But won’t go anymore coz darn to expensive and service darn bad. hehehe…… Let’s go to Jaya33 TF instead. The swimming pool there is superb! :)

DM : you too lah!! that’s why. Better go and find info on how to do fake-tan coz I’ll be the first to sign up for your service, most definitely! hahaha…..

I hear you, DM. I, myself was inspired by the Biggest Loser show (much earlier season). It showed me that, with a ‘little’ help & support from good Personal Trainers — it is possible! After seeing the show, i made a decision to take my (un)fitness seriously and do something about it.

I hope the show will inspire others to do the same, BUT IN A SAFE WAY. People must realise that RESULTS need COMMITMENT & PROPER KNOWLEDGE supported by ENCOURAGEMENT & DETERMINATION. No ‘easy’ way to it …

Mark – yeah – it is an excellent motivational tool for the client even when they make some noticeable progress!

Hliza – yes I had no idea it was showing on Hallmark. Special thanks to Aizan (read on her blog http://aizansuhaira.blogspot.com/) who shared that it airs on Hallmark. I checked the guide, and it shows on 2pm, and repeated again at 7pm.

Aizan: Yes I agree with you – on yesterday’s show, they were ranking the participants based on PERCENTAGE weight lost in that week, which is unfair imy opinion cos the 400+ pound guy losing 10% is 40 lbs – which is a far better result than the 200lb guy losing 10% which is only 20 lbs. Percentage-wise, they’re both ranked the same, but actually, the 400lb guy achieved more.

Adeline: Haven’t you heard of the Pro-tan instant tanning liquid? Its available locally. So you spray your tan on, and then shower it away – I think. But its an instant one.

CrazeeFit: Good for you! If only they showed it at a more sensible time, and if more people watched The Biggest Loser instead of The Amazing Race for example – wow, I wonder what the impact will be.

the premise looked good on paper but i read somewhere some time ago the first winner of the biggest loser resorted to starving himself and doing all sort of unhealthy things such as sitting in a sauna for hours just to lose weight during the period up to the weighing in.

good that it inspired people to lead a healthy life though

I thought tanning is also not good – it promotes skin cancer… hmm..

Anws, i happen to just catch this show yesterday night. Saw it on Oprah before – they were all featured on Oprah and by then they were already lean and fit.
Was suprised to see them on the show (episode 1) when they just started. They were HUGE. I am so amazed! at how much they have changed. Healthy lifestyle and exercise really changes our life for the better.
It’s so touching to see how these ppl pushed themselves so hard and made it in the end. I am so inspired! :-)

eksk: I’m not surprised that some of them will resort to doing anything – cos there’s a huge cash prize involved too.

Jen: Great – now take that feeling and do something with it!
