At the Kitchen with DM – Tuna Burgers

by Noel Chelliah on Wednesday, Mar 25, 2009

Today’s post is gonna be really different – I’d like to share a recipe for making Tuna Burgers I tried lately (unfortunately I didn’t take pics!).

If you’re sick of eating Tuna out of the can… then this recipe is just perfect for you. Turn plain tasting canned tuna into a mouth-watering hot meal by just adding a few ingredients.

Tuna Burgers

Preparation time: 10 minutes
Difficulty: Easy
Makes 2 servings

Ingredients:

  • 3 cans of Tuna chunks in water, drained (I used the TC Boy Tuna in Spring Water)

  • 2 Tablespoons Wheat Germ
  • 1 Large Green oOnion/or Red Onion (minced finely)
  • 2 omega-3 Eggs, beaten
  • 1 Teaspoon Soy Sauce
  • Dash of Garlic Powder (McCormick Spices has this – you can get them at any Supermarket)
  • Salt & Pepper to taste
  • 2 Teaspoon Olive Oil

Instructions:

  • Combine all of the ingredients in a large mixing bowl – Use your hands and mix them well (wash your hands first alright?)
  • Form into 2 or 3 large patties
  • Use Cooking Spray on a non-stick grilling pan, and pan-fry the tuna burgers for approx 5 mins
  • You’re done!!

The wheat germ and omega-3 eggs help to form a nice matrix for these burgers and add precious omega-3 fatty acids. This dish can be eaten be served with a salad, grilled vegetable, used in a sandwich – or just eaten plain.

What I like about this recipe is that the Tuna Burgers are really REALLY easy to prepare – looks really awesome in the end – and makes you feel like a chef. Try this.. and let me know how it goes! You will certainly impress your partner!

In my next few posts… I plan to highlight the various tools in the kitchen (like my awesome grilling pan I bought from Ikea, costs less than RM90), the various condiments I use, etc. Don’t forget to subscribe to my blog if you don’t wanna miss out!

Bon Appétit!

Jason: Darn.. its been AGES since I ate one of those…

Aizan: Time to get a new one perhaps? The one I got at Ikea is awesome – it even gives the ‘grill’ marks on any meat you cook! Need to take a pic and post it up.

Losernator: Nope.. no luck on the foreman grill. Sigh.

Hey DM, may I know that TCBoy Tuna In Water can actually eat straight out from the can or I gotta cook it for a while? Can you suggest some foods that I can get faster for gym bunny? Somethin’ doesn’t require cook. FYI, U ROCK!

Shaun: Will take some the next time I make them. :)

HARRIson – yes you can eat them straight out of the can. I believe they’re already cooked and then canned. Raw tuna is actually reddish in colour.

I like making shakes when I don’t feel like cooking – http://www.dailymuscle.com/2009/03/26/at-the-kitchen-with-dm-a-super-shake/

Actually guys, I’m thinking of coming up with a simple recipe book! It’s now on my to-do-list.
