At the Kitchen with DM – A Super Shake

by Noel Chelliah on Thursday, Mar 26, 2009

Taking off from my Tuna Burger recipe yesterday – I’m starting to explore new territory… Shakes!! I whipped up a quick shake this morning for breakfast.

Here’s what I put in it:

  • Half green apple (cubed)
  • Half slice pineapple (cubed)
  • 1.5 scoops of Optimum Nutrition Whey Protein (Vanilla)
  • Handful of Almonds (about 8 pieces)
  • 2 tablespoons of Carman’s Muesli
  • 1 glass iced Green Tea
  • 5 ice cubes
  • 1 teaspoon Melrose Organic Wheatgrass powder

Blend in a blender for 30 seconds – and done!!
It actually tasted pretty awesome!

Unfortunately, I am unable to analyze and provide you with the nutritional breakdown cos I live in a home, not a laboratory, but I do know for sure that this shake is packed with high-quality protein, fiber, good fats, antioxidants and more – and will beat any so called ‘healthy shakes’ you can possibly buy from any juice kiosk here in Malaysia.

I’m still trying to find combinations that I prefer the most… so until then… hop on, and be prepared to go on a roller-coaster journey of TASTE with me! :)

P.S. – I don’t know what to call this shake! Anyone wanna help me name it? And honestly… I had no intention of making it match the theme colour of my blog… I swear!

Looking forward to your replies…
DM

It looks delicious! It can’t be more than 130 – 150 calories from my guesstimation.

I’d call it ‘The Incredible Hulk’ — not very original but then it just popped up because your shake is .. green :P

sfighter: Actually, I’d estimate it to be anywhere between 300 to 350 calories max:
180 cals from the 1.5 scoops of ON Whey Protein
56 cals from the almonds (1 almond is approx 7 cals)
25 – 30 cals from half green apple
Maybe 50 cals from the half slice pineapple

I’m curious how you came to 130 to 150? Tembak ah?

K.Chel: Haha.. yeah, taken already! It would have been perfect!

suN: Yeah, thanks for the tip.

Aizan: I would love to! First, find your pan, and see if you have a blender that you can also find. *grin*

Losernator: Nice… but The Hulk would suit something with more calories I think.

So far.. I’m liking Aizan’s suggestion for Mean Green!

That is hands down the most unique shake recipe I have ever seen. I must say that you have some creativity.

Greg: Thank You! :) It takes a bit of adventuring to discover new things!

Jason: Hahahahhahah… its anything but cendol!!!

Jen: What’s that?

Ann: Interesting recipe… but seeing that its made of protein powder, and then pan-fried – I really don’t know, cos proteins start to get destroyed at the temperature of 60 degrees.

Made a mention of it (glass of Fresh) on my blog.
It’s a concoction recommended by Dr Oz :-)

Dailymuscle: proteins start to get destroyed at the temperature of 60 degrees?
Omg…thanks for info. xD

lotsofcravings : How is that get wasted? It’s agood idea to bump up ur protein intake for the day if you can’t get to get all proteins from real food. my 2 cents.

Oops yeah you’re right, I took it as 1 scoop and didn’t think about the almonds being high in cal. It’s still a good shake though!

lotsofcravings: I don’t think its a waste. By the way.. why can’t you stand the taste of your protein powder? Mind sharing with us which one you’re using? :)
