Heartfelt Gratitude – A Moving Testimonial from a Client

by Noel Chelliah on Thursday, Feb 11, 2010

This blog post is more on a personal note, but nevertheless, something I’d like to share because I think it speaks volumes about what a Personal Trainer-Client relationship can be. So, if you’ve been dreading your workout sessions with your trainer at the gym… I’d like to enlighten you that there’s actually light at the end of the tunnel. Read on… :-)

I received a heartwarming testimonial from a client this morning (let’s call her ‘M’). We still have one more workout session to go, and I have had the privilege to work with her since mid-August 2009, seeing her fitness levels improve dramatically over those months.

Here’s a little history on ‘M’:
Just like most of my female clients, M came to me in August 2009 to lose some bodyfat – she is an experienced exerciser, a regular gym-goer (in fact, I consider her to be a very advanced Bodypump and Bodystep participant), and even had a fantastic Personal Trainer at Fitness First before me – so in other words… I had big shoes to fill.

Now, I didn’t expect this testimonial from her, but I am really proud to get it – proud of her, and proud that I’ve been able to make such an impact in her life.

So here it is, unedited (except for the part she calls me by my real name), for you guys to read.

Subject: Heartfelt Gratitude

Dear DM,

I feel sad that our sessions are ending and am compelled to write my thoughts about how you’ve impacted my life. So bear with me ok? One of the highlights of my life in 2009 was having you as a trainer.

In retrospect, hiring you was so much worth it than buying a Gucci (which I’ve bought anyway). You’ve changed my life in the sense that I’m more informed about eating healthy and exercising. I’m applying what I’ve learned from you every day. This is invaluable to me. I’m proud to have you as my trainer and I make sure everybody knows this. I’ve met PTs who tried to sell their services to me but I proudly told them I have an AWESOME trainer. I so admire and respect your work ethics – you walk the talk.

My one regret is that I wished I had taken the time to get to know the person behind the trainer better. From what little I know of you, you’re a kind, considerate and genuine person. You give and share unselfishly. Believe me there aren’t many of your kind out there and I’m thankful to have crossed path with you. Perhaps we could chat over coffee (and cupcakes) sometime.

My heartfelt gratitude for your kind attention and guidance.
God bless.

M

At the moment, M’s boyfriend has been telling her that she’s lost enough of weight and that she HAS to stop! (though that’s not the reason our sessions have come to an end). Also, I am really glad that she has also progressed to include other physical activities to continuously improve her fitness levels.

On another note, if you’re out there currently working with an awesome Personal Trainer – I’d like to encourage you to take time to tell him/her how much help they have been to you, and to give them some feedback (it’s an effective way for us trainers to know how to improve and to progress you further).

Plus, you’ll really make someone’s day. :-)

In health,
DM

Yeah, oftentimes people just complain but take good service for granted. Kudos to DM. Because of trainers like you, there are more ‘enlightened’ people out there.

:-)
I’m sure there are plenty of great trainers out there too – the problem is that they don’t have a blog or the exposure like I do.
