What’s in Your Shopping Cart?

I’ve got a confession to make. I’ve had this habit for years… and I don’t think it’s a nice thing to do. But I love to peep… peep into the shopping trolleys and baskets of other shoppers at the grocery store. :-)

I’ve been doing this for ages - and you know what I’ve come to realise? I’ve come to a conclusion that the contents of someone’s trolley is a good indicator of the health/physique of the person buying it.

You’ll notice that those who buy tonnes of junk - like a lifetime supply of instant noodles, chips, preserved fruits, biscuits, colourful canned meats, sugared drinks, you name it they bought it! - usually have a physique that you’d rather not have.

Sometimes, you’d see an entire family that’s obese - and there would be so much junk in their shopping cart that it’s just too much for my brain to comprehend.

I mean.. no wonder they look like that - it’s the food they eat, and what they surround themselves with in their kitchen at home. We’re human - we’re not perfect - and we all have desires and urges we sometimes cannot control (which is why sometimes a full kitchen ‘overhaul’ is necessary if you find yourself giving in to eating junk, but more on that in another post soon.).

If I lived in a kitchen filled with instant noodles… it’s only a matter of time before I start opening them up, eating them, and allowing my health to go down the drain.

Trying to control your food intake, but you’ve got many tubs of ice-cream in your refrigerator? Well good luck, cos trust me - if a food is in your possession, you WILL eat it.

The next time you’re at the supermarket - try it (try to be a bit discreet though cos I don’t think it’s very polite! - especially if you’re caught).

So what’s in YOUR shopping cart?
Tonnes of processed foods? Or are you eating real food - lean meats, veggies, fruits, dairy - etc.

Here’s mine from 2 days ago:
*Oranges, lettuce, avocado, chicken meat and some shrimp.

Do share yours!

I bought yogurts, HL milk (choco flava =p) and kiwis yesterday. I have oranges and apples in my fridge; I’m a fruits junkie XD XD

Hmm… funny you should write this. Frankly, I have never been a big fan of instant noodles. You can put packs and packs of it in my kitchen and it will stay unopened for quite some time. Yes, I get cravings every now and then, but it has never veered out of control.

But maybe I’m one of those weird ones. Yeay! Good for me.

I’m controlling myself not to peep into my kitchen cabinet where my cousin (staying with me, renting) stores tonnes and tonnes of maggi in there. I notice he will always have at least twice of maggi for his dinner. I mean, I looovvveeeeee maggi sooo much until, dunno when and out of somewhere, somehow, I try to control myself not to eat it even tho it’s damn that convenient and easy to cook …. and tasty! hahahaha…. ok. Don’t slap me coz I’m not eating them anymore. Yeay!!

The other day while waiting for my turn to pay for my yogurt and milk, I noticed there’s 3 big packets of junk food next to my stuff at the counter. Out of curiosity, I turned to look at the person behind me and horrified to see an obese man. I felt like shaking some senses into him and swapping his stuff with mine. Imagine if I start peeping into someone’s trolley from now on. I don’t think I can endure the same horror again hehe..

I just shopped yesterday :) In my cart, I had fresh milk, lettuce, yellow onions, mangos, SPINACH, canned tuna in olive oil, whole meal bread, cream cheese, yogurt, 100 plus and M&M’s :p

Are tuna in olive oil and cream cheese good? (pretend you didn’t see 100 plus and M&M’s)

I’m horrible. I don’t do much shopping coz my mom prepares dinner. But I do prepare breakfast and sometimes lunch. Foods are replenished whenever they are gone, so I don’t normally buy everything in one go.
Spinach, Dole bananas (they are the best when used to make oats), rolled oats, almond milk (for oats), mixed greens (for lunch salads), tuna in water, cherry tomatoes, tub of greek yogurt, red bell peppers, bag of frozen blueberries, strawberries, papaya, granny smith, natural PB, herbal tea and laughing cow cheese.

Adeline: Do your cousin a favour. Throw them away.

getfit: Yes, you’d be surprised. People actually buy those huge packs and keep them at home. It’s not just the grocery stores that do that!

Dennis: It depends - if you’re comparing it with Tuna in Mayo, then obviously Tuna in Olive oil is better. But if it was me, I’d go for the tuna in water.

Michelle - that doesn’t sound too horrible at all. I’d love to buy berries but I think they’re too expensive for me.
