Body Scans of Two Women – 250lbs vs 120lbs

by Noel Chelliah on Friday, May 21, 2010

This has been around over the Internet since early this year – but I just thought I’d put it on the blog considering the amount of traffic I get from people interested in fat loss. The image below shows a body scan (if I’m not mistaken, it is a MRI slice), of two women weighing 113kg and 54kg – so no clothes to hide and pretend that everything is fine.

I don’t intend for today’s blog post to deliver facts on weight loss or to explain the dangers of being overweight – so I’m not going to say much except to leave you with a few things to think about at the end of the post. I hope that this would be a wake up call to many if you think you can ‘get off the hook’ by not taking care of your health or ignoring weight gain.

The Comparison – 250lb woman and a 120lb woman

Some things I’d like to draw your attention to:

- Look at the bones from the knees down
– her ankles don’t seem like they align correctly. In fact, they look like they’re about to give way. This is why trainers who make their obese/overweight clients to jumping lunges or anything to stressful on the joints should be shot – but I’ll save this rant for another blog post on some other day, or this post would go on for a lot more. :-)

- Think about how much unnecessary stress and demand the overweight woman is placing on her body

- The overweight woman has a larger stomach and intestinal tract

- See how a lot of bodyfat accumulates between the organs for the 250lb woman

I’m no MRI technician, but a picture does speak a thousand words and it doesn’t take a genius to know that what you see above is not good at all. Being overweight WILL kill you – no matter how healthy or invincible you think you are.

Now think of some of the contestants from the Biggest Loser – think what it must be like for them just to do some of the simple things in life that we take for granted – like climbing up the stairs, carrying a child, or even going to the toilet.

Of course, all hope is not lost – I’d like to tell you that inside every unfit, unhealthy, and overweight person is a whole new you dying to get out. It’s just that it’s up to you if you would allow that to happen.

Sometimes the shock factor (like this scan) can work; jolting us into reality. Thanks for sharing.

That’s what I have been trying to tell those who eagerly join OBC thinking it’s the best thing since sliced bread. It’s bad for their joints! The “trainer” makes their overweight participants do burpees, jumping jacks and what not till they throw up and pass out. How safe is that?

I just wanted to stop by and say that not mentioning you in my post was a total oversight on my part. I wrote the post and meant to go back and get a link to your site and got tied up doing something else, forgetting to go back. I have added your url to the post. Sorry about that!!
